A recognized expert in epidemiology for the agency with responsibility for developing policy and objectives, appraising programs, and initiating requirements for epidemiological studies.

Participates with scientific and program consultants in various aspects of study or survey design processes, including conducting searches or reviews of existing literature and data in a scientific area.


As a Epidemiologist ( Bilingual), you will : Serve as the recognized expert in epidemiology for the agency with responsibility for developing policy and objectives, appraising programs, and initiating requirements for epidemiological studies.

Oversee contracts, grants, awards or cooperative agreements with full responsibility for carrying out all required monitoring and management duties.

Serve as technical consultant on contracts for scientific services. Perform duties such as : writes statements of work, serves on technical review panels for contract proposals, and monitors contracts for quality assurance and quality control.

Participate in negotiations on the type and amount of assistance provided to contractors and cooperative agreement participants.

Provide technical advice and assistance in the development of criteria and standards for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of contract, grant, and / or cooperative agreement proposals.

Provide advice and assistance for the development of contracts, grants, or cooperative agreements for professional, laboratory, or other services pertinent to the program, project, or study.

Design, plan and initiate epidemiologic studies, surveys, and investigations. Participate in various aspects of the study or survey design process, including conducting a search or review of the existing literature and data in a specialty area, and preparing and / or presenting summaries for a variety of purposes.

Monitor internal review board clearances and designs questionnaires and other data collection instruments. Identify and analyze public health issues and their impact on public policies or epidemiological studies or surveys.

Serve as a national or internationally recognized consultant and expert on epidemiological issues on critical problems in the field of epidemiology.

Evaluate data collection, quality control, and data utilization methods used to study epidemiological problems and issues.

Identify or develop appropriate intervention methods to identify, treat or resolve various medical issues or problems. Consult on technical problems with solutions that do not conform to established protocols and require the modification of approaches or applications in a specialty area.

Provide epidemiological advice and / or assistance in the resolution of technical problems and / or issues that include significant barriers to program or project delivery.

Provide consultative services on large and difficult programs or projects that have unusually demanding technical problems or issues.

Serve as a project coordinator and recommends resources for epidemiologic projects. Reviews and approve the substance of reports, decisions, case documents, contracts, or other action documents to ensure that policies accurately reflect the position of the organization and the views of the agency.

Basic Qualifications Requirements

Basic Qualifications :

Must possess a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Term appointments may be shortened or extended up to a maximum of four years based on the needs of the agency without further competition.
  • Subsequent employment for CDC positions must be through the appropriate competitive process or special employment program hiring authorities.

    Additional selections may be made for similar positions across the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) within the local commuting area(s) of the location identified in this announcement.

    Overseas assignments are for two years. The assignment may be extended based on the needs of the agency. Upon completion of the overseas assignment, CDC employees on temporary promotion / reassignment will be placed in accordance with CDC placement procedures.

    Subsequent employment for all others for CDC positions must be through the appropriate competitive process or special employment program hiring authorities.

  • This position will be entitled to comparability pay once deployed to overseas location.
  • This position is eligible for special pay allowances (e.g., post differential, housing, relocation, etc.)
  • Immunizations are required and will be administered by the CDC before relocating overseas.
  • To work overseas for the CDC, the selectee will need to obtain security and medical clearances before being cleared to report to the overseas duty station.
  • Continued employment will be subject to submission of all documentation necessary to obtain the medical and security clearances (including documentation for any accompanying dependents), within thirty (30) business days and obtaining the security clearance within six (6) months of the initial appointment.

    Please note the inability to secure the clearances necessary for overseas duty will result in the termination of the appointment to the position.

  • Citizens or permanent residents of the host country are not eligible to be considered.
  • Current permanent status CDC employees will be processed using the appropriate temporary promotion or other temporary assignment authority for permanent employees of CDC.
  • The selectee will have statutory return rights to their permanent CDC position title, series and grade once the overseas assignment is completed.

  • Other current permanent status HHS employees will be hired on a term appointment. There are no statutory return rights.
  • Subsequent employment for CDC positions must be through the appropriate competitive process or special employment program hiring authorities.
